Visit Vietnam - HCMC and Dalat

Visit Vietnam - A Short Getaway from Singapore, Saigon and Dalat Town

To many Singaporeans and Malaysians, life is never the same again since the launch of budget airlines like Air Asia, Jetstar Asia, Tiger Airways and a few more. Air travel to other south east Asia destinations has become more affordable than ever.

If you are planning to visit South East Asia, stop over at Singapore and plan your onward trip here. Flight tickets to other Asia destinations and booking fees are relatively cheaper as compared to booking through your local agents.

Vietnam is a beautiful country which had for the past decade, opened up for tourism. It is only a 1.5 hour flight from Singapore to HCMC(Saigon) and for my first time to visit Vietnam, I visited Ho Chi Ming City and Dalat.

here we go, my first Vietnam trip in Feb 2009.

Day 1: Singapore to Saigon

It was a 1.5 hour flight from Singapore Airport to HCM International Airport. The HCM International Airport is clean and modern.

Vietnam Coffee After exit, we went to the Domestic Terminal and took bus No. 153. The bus fare is only 3000 dong and it took us to District 1 Pham Ghu Lao Street where you could find many backpacker lodges and travel agencies.

The journey was approximately 30 minutes.

We checked into one of the most recommended guesthouse and this place was always fully booked. We did not book any accomondation but we managed to get a room at US$25. The room was clean, brightly illuminated and the beds were comfortable. We wanted to stay here again after our return from Dalat but we were told all rooms were fully booked during those days we wanted.

After we checked into the hotel, it was in the afternoon and we went to a beef noodle place called Pho 99. Prices were not meant for the locals but still reasonable. I had my first bowl of Vietnamese Pho Bo and spring rolls here.

We went to a local supermarket after our late lunch. One of the first few places I would definitely visit is the local supermarket. You get to see the lives of the locals and their essentials. I am sure Vietnames love yoghurt because I saw a wide range of fruity yoghurts selling cheap. A lot of local people visited the yogurt counter and took packets in half a dozens.

There were many road side food stalls but it was only my first day here so I better be more careful with food.

Day 2: Chu Chi Tunnel and visit Vietnam Dalat

Vietnam Dalat Waterfall

Waterfall at Dalat, morning is the best time to visit!

We woke up early at 6:30 am, took our breakfast at the inn and went for our half day trip to Chu Ci tunnel. Sinh Cafe is a reputable and reliable Travel Agency in Vietnam, we were happy with their services and the quality of their tour guides.

Day 3:

We arrived at Dalat in the morning by overnight Bus. We checked into a local Home Stay.

Day 4:

Day tour in Dalat.

Day 5:

Morning in Dalat and back to HCMC

Day 6:

Day Trip to Mekong River

Day 7:

Back to Singapore, end of our visit Vietnam trip, home sweet home
