Singapore Facts 1: Area
Singapore consists of islands at the southern tip of Malaysia Peninsula. Total area: 692.7 sq km, Land: 682.7 sq km. Water: 10 sq km. The area comparative is slightly more than 3.5 times of the size of Washington DC.
Singapore National Flag
Singapore acquired its flag in 1959. The flag has two halves, red above white. The red denotes universal brotherhood and equality, with the white symbolizing purity and virtue. In the upper left corner, a white crescent moon and five stars form a circle. The crescent moon represents a young nation on the rise and the five stars for democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality. The flag is treated with utmost respect and there are strict laws against defiling it.
Ethnic Groups: Chinese 76.8%, Malay 13.9%, Indian 7.9%, other 1.4% (2000 census).

Hours of business in Singapore are Monday to Friday, 9:00 am till 5:00pm. There is an hour of lunch break commonly between 12-2 pm. Many places of business will also trade on Saturday mornings from 09:00 am to 1:00 pm, however, the country is changing and 5 work day week is becoming common. Banks will be open during the weekdays from 09:30 am to 3:00 pm.
There are wireless hotspots (provided by wireless@sg) all over the island available at selected shopping centers, all national libraries, fast food restaurants and cafes. Many hotels and hostels provide internet services either free or at a nominal fee.
