Deepavali Celebration in Singapore Little India
Festival of Light
Deepavali is a Hindu Festival. Around October or November every year, Singapore Little India will be decorated for this most celebrated Hindu Festival.
The Indian communities of Singapore and foreign workers from India gather at Little India joining prayer sessions at Hindu temples and shop for festive goods to decorate their homes.
There will be numerous shops and stalls selling festive goodies, Indian costumes such as Sari and Punjabi suits.
You can find henna painting services very easily along Serangoon Road where Little India is.
Even non-Hindus and people from other ethnic groups join in the festive fun. The celebration attracts many tourists and visitors too.
On the eve of the celebration, believers flock to Serangoon Road for prayer and get bargains at the Festival fair.
Rows of tiny earthen oil pots are lit and placed by the windows or at the entrances of Hindu homes.
Special prayers are held at Hindu temples and Serangoon Road at Little India would be decorated with festive lights.
